Policy Planner: Become an essential member of this vibrant planning team, driving legislative progress and fostering community engagement.

As a Policy Planner, you will play a pivotal role within this close-knit planning team, actively advancing legislative requirements and strategic projects. Your expertise will be crucial in providing valuable planning advice to elected members, helping shape the community's direction.
We're in search of a motivated individual with a robust understanding of planning dynamics and a strong grasp of the Resource Management Act. Holding a tertiary qualification in planning or a related field, you will bring not only your expertise but also exceptional communication and organizational skills that will further elevate our team's effectiveness.

How You Make a Difference:
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the District Plan, crafting Council Plan Changes and privately requested Plan Changes.
  • Shape strategic directions and projects in environmental policy, collaborating with local, regional, and national entities.
  • Aid in implementing Council's Monitoring Strategy to ensure the effectiveness of the District Plan.
  • Foster external relationships with key stakeholders, from government departments to local interest groups.
  • Engage with specialists, professionals, and the public to gather diverse insights.
  • Prepare influential reports for Council and Environment Court.
What You Bring:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in resource management.
  • 2+ years of experience in district plan policy, including plan drafting and presenting reports.
  • Strong knowledge of Resource Management Act, Local Government Act, and urban design principles.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • A customer-centric approach with a knack for building strong relationships.
  • Adaptable mindset to embrace industry changes and innovations.
  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding, appreciating Maori perspectives.
